Green Peas and Palak Masala | Cooking With Kin #8#

This is Part - 2 of Gayathri's contribution to my CWK series. Check out her Poppy Seeds Poori in the previous post

Ingredients:
Green Peas-1cup
Spinach/ Palak-1bunch
Onion-2 medium sized
Tomato-3 medium sized
Oil-2tbs
Turmeric Powder-1/2tsp
Fennel Powder-1/2tsp
Salt-to taste
For The Spice Paste:
Khus Khus/ Poppy Seeds-1tbs
Coriander Powder-1tsp
Cumin Powder-1/2tsp
Kashmiri Red Chilly Powder-1tsp
Grated Fresh Coconut-1/4cup
Oil-1/2tsp

Procedure:
  1. Heat oil for the spice paste. Add the khus khus and sauté until golden.
  2. Add the powders to the pan and sauté until aromatic.
  3. Add coconut and sauté till golden.
  4. Remove from flame and grind the mixture into smooth paste.
  5. Add tomatoes to boiling water. Switch off stove after a minute.
  6. Keep it aside for 10minutes.
  7. Remove the skin of tomatoes and grind it to a smooth puree.
  8. Heat oil and add finely chopped onions.
  9. When golden, add peas and finely chopped palak and sauté until water is evaporated.
  10. Add tomato puree and sauté till oil separates.
  11. Add the spice paste, turmeric powder, salt and fennel powder.
  12. Add Enough water to bring it to right consistency.
  13. When it starts boiling switch flame to low and cover the pan.
  14. Cook until peas are tender.
  15. Switch off flame and transfer to a serving dish.
  16. Serve hot with Khus Khus Pooris
